Haroldo Jacobovicz’s Commitment to Service Drives Success at Horizons Telecom
As the founder and chairman of multiple telecoms and communications companies, Haroldo Jacobovicz has built a career focused on bringing transformational technologies to the world.
Jacobovicz is the founder and chairman of Horizons Telecom and Horizons Datacenter, as well as the founder and CEO of e-Governe Group.
From a young age, Jacobovicz has seen the opportunity that technology brings to entrepreneurship.
In 1982, he started a company called Microsystem with three friends while still in college. The business helped other businesses improve and simplify inventory management. While Microsystem did not make it, Jacobovicz learned valuable lessons and, more critically, saw a future in computing and information technology.
He then started working for Esso (now ExxonMobil) and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a market analyst and head of commercial strategy and new business, based out of the company’s Rio de Janeiro location.
Jacobovicz later worked as a financial assessor and in other businesses — such as Itaipu Binational, a power generation company held by Brazilian and Argentine Government — before launching e-Governe in 1990 and Horizons Telecom in 2010. Today, the companies he leads have had a transformational impact on the lives of his fellow Brazilian citizens.
Horizons Telecom today is one of the most valued and respected telecom businesses in Brazil. The company boasts a fully 100 percent fiber optic network, multipoint redundancy and high-quality equipment for its customers.
In 2020, seeing the value of emerging technologies, he launched Horizons Datacenter. The new company provides cloud computing solutions to companies throughout the country.
Inspired by Parents
Haroldo Jacobovicz was born the son of two Brazilian civil engineers. His mother, Sartita, was one of the first female civil engineers in her part of the country at the time. His father also worked as a civil engineer, working in construction and as a university professor.
A young Jacobovicz drew inspiration from his parents, watching them create vast physical structures and value out of nothing. He decided to follow in their footsteps, studying civil engineering for 4 1/2 years at the Federal University of Paraná.
It was at the university that he began to find interest in the emerging field of information technologies. Like his parents, he saw the opportunity to build something out of nothing that could serve the greater good.
His early work with his college-era business stuck with him. In time, he saw an opportunity to bring technology, especially computers, to public agencies. He recognized that agency work, especially a commitment to deliver quality service, was often hampered by poor telecom networks.
Today, that commitment continues. In 2020, Horizons Telecom completed the purchase of the internet service provider Onda, which accelerated the launch of Horizons Datacenter services. That structure allows him to consider the possibility of launching new products and services to help with the digitalization of society.
The public sector continues to be a top priority for the companies, which have clients in health, education, tax and financial administration. E-Governe Group provides integrated, complete solutions to city halls across Brazil. Horizons Telecom offers services to companies across industries of all sizes and industries. These services include data, internet, backup support, data storage and voice solutions. The solutions provide a fully digital network architecture with multiple redundancies, allowing for improved customer experiences.
The launch of Horizons Datacenter lets Jacobovicz expand into more integrated cloud services, including storage, backup and virtualization services.
Commitment to Service Drives Success
Haroldo Jacobovicz points to several core beliefs that have been behind his success. He has focused on being able to identify real problems and to develop and implement innovative solutions.
For example, for government service customers the company has been able to innovate in the areas of software rental, maintenance and operation services, while providing critically needed security services that create peace of mind. Customers know that their systems are going to be up and running, updated and protected from cyberattacks.
The company also focuses on serving its customers well, with staff who are fully trained and ready to respond to any customer needs. This has been particularly critical for regions of the country where there is a shortage of telecom providers and products.
A vision for service and innovation has driven Jacobovicz to new heights with more integrated services and products yet to come. In a recent interview, he summarized his beliefs on his legacy, both personally and professionally.
“I’m in the business of technology that is the basis for the transformation of the world, and I want to do more. Leaving a better world as a legacy; that’s what satisfies me most about the work I do,” he said.
